Mike Nied of Idolator felt that the song "highlights Ava’s ability to fill dance floors across the globe". The song received positive reviews, with Jon Blistein of Rolling Stone complimenting the song's "pulsing verse" and its "dramatic hook peppered with regal synths". She also sent out physical cards to some of her fans with a link to RSVP for the single on her website. Max teased the single on her Instagram account by deleting almost all of her posts and changing her whole theme. In an interview with Popdust, Max revealed that the song initially went through ten different iterations, which included different melodies and production, before the final version was completed.
